Best Airless Paint Sprayers

As for my experience with  sprayer, I waited until I really put it through it’s paces before giving this review. I’ve painted a few interiors and I’m on my third or fourth exterior with it now. Still with the same tip that came with the sprayer, same hose, etc. I tend to be anal about cleaning it, though you just cannot keep paint off of the hoses. It’s just not possible. But cleaning everything as well as a I can I think this sprayer should last another year or so hopefully. I’m guessing I’ll need a new tip or gun at some point and I will get the 50 ft hose in the next day or two because I’m painting a huge house right now so I just need it, but I hope this helps somebody.

  • CONTROL PAINT FLOW: Fully adjustable pressure to give you ultimate control of paint flow for any project size
  • SPRAY PAINT UNTHINNED: Stainless Steel Piston Pump allows you to spray paint unthinned at high pressure
  • SPRAY DIRECTLY FROM PAINT BUCKET: Flexible suction tube allows you to spray directly from a 1 or 5 gallon paint bucket
  • SPRAY MORE PROJECTS EACH YEAR: Annual use recommendation is up to 125 gallons per year
  • FAST AND EASY CLEAN-UP: PowerFlush Adapter connects to a garden hose for fast and easy cleaning
  • IDEAL FOR MULTI STORY HOMES: Can support up to 100 ft of paint hose allowing you to spray second and third story homes
  • CONTINUOUS SPRAYING: RAC IV SwitchTip allows you to reverse the tip when clogged to keep you spraying

Get some help if u r short or not real strong. Moving ladders and buckets can be helpful with friend.
Use paint strainer bags. They r pretty cheap and will keep u from clogging your tips.If you leave your gun for a few min and then it won’t spray ur strainer is likely plugged. Uncouple the gun break it down  and wash throughly before trying again. It’s not worth the aggravation. After it happened to me I was careful with wash thru
Do washing outside. Who cares if some paint on grass better than inside your house
Suggest u get big spring clamps -CHEAP- at big lots or WM or any big store for cheap cheap and use them to hold lines to side of buckets. The suction and discharge lines from machine r rather inflexible and can pull bucket over or pop out of bucket. Use 2 on each but don’t crimp hose.I put the whole deal on a table and it made it much easier. Use light coats. Much better than glopping it on. 2-3 coats works great great great!
Watch YT videos on methods of application. Doors should be vertically up and down motion but other items are different. It does make a difference and practice with some plain old cheap latex paint first.

Lastly. Don’t expect to be painting the first day. Practice yes but not painting. Prep is far too long to be able to get all done. When I was about to do 5 exterior metal doors I spent majority of time using airplane remover to get the main paint off. It is the best for removing large searches instead of sanding etc. use respirator.

Graco Magnum 262805 X7 Cart Airless Paint Sprayer

This sprayer is actually really good. It sprays latex real nice and heavy, and then of course 9 times out of 10 you go back and roll over it. There is no need for thinning down paints, I use sherwin williams for almost everything I do, though I have been known to use Conco brand paint from menards on cheap rental jobs where they literally just want you to slap paint down. They will not pay for good paint or even good work so you really just have to give them what they want at a reasonable price, but I digress.

The only thing I dislike about this sprayer, is that the hook for the 5 gallon bucket, doesn’t hold the bucket all the time. When the sprayer is just sitting flat and the bucket is there the handle on the bucket is too high to sit in the hook and so the bucket just sits on the ground. I imagine this is a design decision so that there isn’t constantly 75lbs (or however much a 5 gal bucket of paint weighs) hanging from the sprayer at all times. But it’s frustrating because that means any time you want to move you have to bend over and tilt the sprayer back and make sure the hook catches the bucket handle, then tilt it back more to pick up the bucket. It’s just a pain. I’d much rather the bucket hung nonstop.

Besides that little frustration, as well as the pain it is to clean up afterwards, this sprayer is fantastic. The cleanup isn’t an issue with the sprayer either, it’s just the normal ‘ton’ of paint everywhere that you have to clean. Overspray isn’t as bad as I thought it would be to be honest. Though it will get anywhere, in the immediate spray area that isn’t securely masked. You really have to make sure when you mask that your tape is on really well and that if you have paper or plastic that it isn’t loose. This sprayer has some force so it will fling plastic and paper all over the place and rip it right off if the tape job wasn’t done well.

Besides that I guess the only other thing I would have asked for would have been a 50 foot hose instead of the 25ft that came with it. It’s just not enough for exterior projects where you are two stories up on a ladder. I will just have to purchase a 50ft hose later, which isn’t a big deal besides it being $50 for the hose.

Recommend for new users.Take the time to learn aspects of the machines. Settings. Tips and pressure needs. It doesn’t take long but is well worth it. Expect to use more paint than is normal.Pay attention to temps before u plan to paint Takes longer to cure and your specialty paint may need a range to be applied best
Also use really good lighting. With the finish this gives u really need well lit area. Older eyes especially. I only painted during daylight hours and above 50 degrees ambient tempBuy 2-5 gallon pails with lids and devote them exclusively to paint jobs. Wash each out well after using.Have hose ready with control valve or u will be walking back and forth too much.
I got the extension wand but really didn’t need it for jobs so far.
No sprayer will help u if u don’t prep whatever u r painting well. I will post pics later but am working on metal exterior doors right now and I spent a LOT of time prepping. But the end result was worth it. Go to sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore or a specialty store who knows paint! Dont use cheap stuff. Use good primer and paint. It makes a difference. And make sure To use proper primer. Store can help.
Big box stores r convenient but they usually don’t have all the expertise u need
Be prepared for mistakes and messes at first.
Use drop cloths on concrete or where u don’t want to have paint should it spill
But cheap plastic drop cloths and use on walls around your painting. Prevents overspray from clinging in the air and then onto surrounding areas.
Consider using a masker. 3M 3000 is well known and very very easy to use when u learn. I just watched YT videos and bought masking tape, Brown paper, paper blade or plastic blade. Practice.
If u have compressor use air gun to air off dust or use a dusting brush just before u paint. That fine dust will mar ur beautiful finish if not
U can spray on cardboard or ground. But u need to see the pattern and ensure that the paint is not ‘tailing’. Easy to adjust and easy to fix
Buy extra tips as u go along. There r differences. If u r just using general purpose walls in ur home or priming things the tip that comes with it is fine and easy to use. But if u need a fine finish like for doors or cabinets try a FFLP FINE FINISH LOW PRESSURE. I have been using a 315FFLP and it has given me truly incredible results Very proud of it Tip. Watch for the width of tip. Learn what the numbers mean and it’s easy easy. These tips r the latest and newest and allow u to use about half the pressure normal spraying would need They also produce an incredibly fine finish which looks utterly fantastic.
Wear PPE. ESP respirator with cartridges. U dont want to breathe in paint over and over, and this machine atomizes so well that it will float in the air Wear clothing u r willing to throw away. And keep wearing it until u r done.
Be prepared for actually WANTING to do painting. can u believe it!That took more a day. Then I had to sand all the remaining and then use Bondo to fix dents and holes etc. sanded that and re did the bondo again. I used TSP and washed each door throughly off. Extra water for removal of all residue. Waited for them to dry and after drying, I took all the weather strips out of jamb and masked it per videos from YT. I primed four exterior doors at once. Made it much easier for cleanup. Sanded lightly and re primed with second coat. Sanded and then went for the gusto. I am about to paint them all at once. Gotta tell ya the painting is the FUN part. It’s takes literally seconds to do a door with this thing.

Graco Magnum 257025 Project Painter Plus Paint Sprayer

I have had some terrible experiences with airless paint sprayers. I have tried 3 different previous products. One had a tank that was so heavy your arm got tired after a few minutes, another had such a small tank you barely got 5 minutes spraying between fills and all 3 were between mediocre and bad paint results. My heart sank when I saw the plethora of instructions that came with this tool but it turns out they are written to describe every little thing you need to do to set it up, break it down, clean it and lay it away long term. In fact it is easy to set up, use and breakdown. I tried it with different paints and it certainly produced excellent results with deck stain on a fence, exterior cement paint on a concrete wall and latex emulsion on indoor wood paneling.

Here are some great features:
1. You don’t need to fill up anything or empty anything, it uses paint straight out of the 5 gal or 1 gallon can/drum.
2. It has a long delivery hose so you don’t have to move the tool and paint container very often.
3. The nozzle can be set horizontal or vertical so you can choose to paint up and down or side to side whatever works best for the situation.
4. One of THE best features is the nozzle barrel arrangement. The spray nozzle is on a vertical circular barrel with an arrow handle on top. If you ever have a blockage you simply turn the arrow to the reverse direction, point somewhere that doesn’t matter and pull the trigger once and the paint is forced the wrong way through the nozzle and clears the blockage. This makes for very fast clearance and very few stoppages. I should add the pump already has a strainer on the inlet hose and the gun has a micro-filter pre-nozzle but it is still a fantastic feature that puts this tool ahead of the competition.
5. Priming is easy and the pump only operates when output is demanded which reduces the noise and pump wear and tear.
6. The whole thing comes apart very easily for cleaning.
7. It is pretty economic with paint. It is the only tool I have used which gives good coverage and achieves the square footage on the paint labels with very little overspray and dust.
8. It is fast. With a 10-12″ fan spray you can paint very large areas fast and being airless it is not affected greatly by slight wind outside.

The only reason I took off one star was the volume of paint it takes for set up and tear down. With 20ft of hose a big gun and all the suction tube and pump it probably wastes around half a pint every use. That is no big deal when you have both sides of 1,600 feet of 6ft high fencing to paint, but anything smaller than a large room you would need to take that into account. You can pour the paint from the pipes back into the can but there is a lot of cleanup involved. That said I found this tool fantastic, quick, easy to use and does a good job. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to others for both indoor and outdoor medium to large painting projects.

I was only a little worried about how cheap this is and some of the reviews had me worried too. After using this I’ve discovered that those bad reviews must be from people who did not read the directions. You have to read the directions. If the paint sputters you might have solid chucks of paint cause you didn’t strain it or you might not have thinned the paint like the instructions tell you to do in step 1. That’s why it comes with a viscosity tool. Read the directions and you will come to LOVE this sprayer as much as I do. It has saved me loads of time and paint already. I used 1.6 L of paint mixed with a small amount of water to paint the bottom part of my living room. And looking at it it doesn’t even look like I need a second coat. The only regret I have is not buying this earlier. It will probably pay for itself in the amount of paint I save from using it.
