Bosch MX30EK-35 3.0-Amp Oscillating Tool

The windows in this house had metal flashing over a wooden drip edge at the top of each window. Each flashing and drip edge had at least 20 small nails attaching the flashing to the wood. Instead of pulling out each nail I used the metal cutting blade and cut off each piece of flashing ans it was behind a layer of old asbestos siding as well as Masonite siding. The combination of the blade and the power of the Bosch made this task very simple. The blade, once I got it started, cut the flashing very easily and made the job much easier.

My only complaint would be that I wish the metal cutting blade itself was a bit more rigid. It did last through 5 windows and maybe that is what I should expect. But, and this is my thought only, if the blade was a bit harder steel it might be better. Overall though I’m not complaining, saved me a ton of extra work.

.I thought about the Fein, but I really can’t say that for the additional $$ it would really perform any better.

This kit does come with a decent selection of blades to use. I would highly suggest getting extra flush-cut blades,Bosch Model # OSC312. This one is a metal/ wood blade. I find I use it more than any others. Works great for sheetrock, trimming door jams, vinyl siding, cutting shims, nails. The next blade I suggest is the wood/ metal cutting plunge blades.

So far, I really haven’t found anything that I have been disappointed with when I use this. With consideration as to what I am using it for. While I’m sure I could cut framing lumber with it, I know that it has limits. For a bit less money you can get this same model in a nice carry bag, the one I bought has a plastic case.I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone…

Rockwell 4.0 Amp Sonicrafter F50 Oscillating Multi-Tool

I am a seasoned DIY’r and do most of the maintenance and upgrade of my older house with my wife’s valuable help. Through the years, I have used 4 different oscillating tools, all from well known manufacturers. I purchased the F50 a couple of months ago when I began reconstructing grandma’s 20×20′ deck (lots of demolition work). I have also used it for other outdoor work at her and my house. I find the F50 to perform as advertized, especially when coupled with the newer Bosh carbide blades with which I cut through deck nails without any fuss. It is so powerful that I have the sense that the speed of cutting is mostly limited by the blade. In dimensional lumber, the 1 5/8″ usable depth carbide blades sink completely with little effort. Paying some attention, I was also able to cut some rough but acceptable joints. It is less noisy and more stable than every other similar tool with which I have worked. The blade change mechanism is very convenient and decisive, and there are applications where the variable speed is a definitive plus (in general, lower speed = more control and less friction). The price is more than right, especially if (like me) you buy it during a sale (less than $100). The F50 feels like a very mature tool with all the power and convenience necessary to competently perform all the jobs for which it was designed, which makes it a real pleasure to use. I would wholeheartedly recommend it as one of the most useful, smaller power tools to have in the tool box.

The all new RK5141K F50 Sonicrafter is the first oscillating tool with 5-dgrees of oscillation. This makes cutting significantly faster. The 4 amp tool has plenty of power, constant speed control, the universal fit system and a Vibrafree counterweight system to offset vibrations. The F50 also has a max cutting load of 35 lbs. which means you can more force than any other tool without the tool bogging down.

The F50 is part of the new Sonicrafter Universal Fit System which is a one of a kind Oscillating tool system that works seamlessly with other oscillating tools and accessories. The first half of the Universal Fit System is the Sonicrafter tools that use a Hyperlock blade mounting system that will not only work with all Rockwell Accessories, but it will accept other brand’s accessories as well. If you are looking to move into a new Rockwell Sonicrafter, but still own accessories from another brand, you do not have to worry that you are throwing money away because your other accessories will work with your new Sonicrafter.

Universal Fit System and Hyperlock

The Rockwell Sonicrafter accessories are the other half of the Universal Fit System. The Rockwell Sonicrafter Accessories have a universal interface that works with other oscillating tools. This allows you to work with any Rockwell blade you want on any oscillating tool you have. With Rockwell’s offering of over 25 different types of accessories, you will be able to take on an endless array of jobs from cutting to sanding to scraping. The Universal Fit system makes the muddy waters of the oscillating tool market clear.

Hyperlock :

The Rockwell Sonicrafter Tool Series features 4 different models that use the Tool-free Hyperlock Blade changing system that provides 1-ton of clamping force to hold your accessories securely. The Hyperlock system uses an easy release lever that will spin to loosen the accessory flange to allow you to make blade changes. This system prevents blade slippage which can hinder your work progress. The Hyperlock system makes changing quick and easy so you can go from one task to another in no time.

  • The F50 features 5 degrees of oscillation for fast cutting and variable speed for precise control, 4.0 amp motor for significant cutting ability

  • Universal Fit System accepts all major brands of blades, sanders, and other accessories to be used on the F50
  • Constant Speed Control for maintaining speed-of-cut under load
  • The F50 features 5 degrees of oscillation for fast cutting and variable speed for precise control, 4.0 amp motor for significant cutting ability

Porter Cable PCE605K52

For over 100 years, PORTER-CABLE has been building high-quality, performance-driven power tools and accessories. The PCE605K52 3-Amp Oscillating Tool is no exception. With exceptional performance, versatility, and a solid build, there’s a reason why this model is one of the most popular tools in its class. With an impressive 3 amp motor and variable speed dial, capable of delivering between 10,000 to 20,000 OPM, this 7.8 lb corded oscillating tool is perfect for numerous applications.

The build quality is excellent in both tools, but there are differences in terms of features and performance. PC uses fast look which is far more convenient than on F30. You just push the lever, slide the blade in and you are done. It probably does not excerpt 1 ton of holding pressure like Sonicrafter but it does not need it as the lock mechanism is drastically different. F30 just presses the blade against the plate so the more pressure you get the less slippage you have. Porter and Cable on the other hand uses the slots in the blade to fix the position so the pressure does not have to be great. It is fast and convenient but … you can only use compatible blades, which should not be a problem as the latest PC takes the Dewalt universal fit blades. Sonicrafter is less convenient but in theory can take any blade. Basically anything that has an appropriate size hole. As the slots on the blade are not required you probably can even make your own accessory, like some fancy awl, stuck bolt loosener, engraver etc. Use your imagination. Now about performance.

F30 is rated 3.5A while PC only 3.0A so they should not be compared directly. Also in the commercial video by Sonicrafter they claim that F30 and F50 have 4 and 5 oscillating degrees respectively and cut through the wood much faster. By having a larger oscillating degree you loose fine control. The tool turns from a precision tool to a brute force power tool.
Despite that F30 has more powerful motor I noticed that surprisingly it gets hot much slower than PC. On the other hand Sonicrafter’s handle vibrates so much that your jaw starts jumping up and down. This is despite the highly publicized Vibrafree Counterweight, which appeared to be a gimmick. PC vibrates much less. PC is packed in a better carrying box and has much more included accessories. It also has a depth restrictor that has many uses.So the bottom line:
Porter and Cable is more convenient, more precise, has more features and vibrates less.
F30 is more powerful, overheats less and takes almost any blade. It also can cut deeper as the blade sits about 1 inch forward compared to PC.

PORTER-CABLE PCE605K 3-Amp Corded Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit

If is this your  first oscillating tool. I purchased it to prep walls for painting that had posters, stickers and other paper items glued to them. The scraper blade does a good job and the tool is light and maneuverable. Abrasives are tough, like the abrasives used for grinding, and quickly Velcro onto the pad. All of the attachments change quickly and easily.

The reason it does not get 5 stars is it gets hot and relatively quickly. It surprised me that the scraper blade gets hot–blister your finger if you touch it hot. That is not a problem, and I suppose predictable if I had thought more about it. The issue is the tool itself. After a few minutes of use, you need to be careful where you grab near the head of the tool because it becomes uncomfortably warm.

Although it gets hot, I has good power and is light-weight. I like it.
