Best Weed Eater

After testing the best weed eater on five different lawns and at a city park, we agreed that the WORX 32-Volt GT2.0 String is the best weed whacker overall because of its light weight, power, anti-vibration system and cutting capability, but the Toro 51480 is a very close runner-up. The Toro is a bit heavier but does an equally good job cutting grass. The Worx effortlessly cut its way through thick weeds and grass and even took down tough, reedy vegetation. The 60-inch shaft makes it easier on taller users and gives a person of any height longer reach. We have listed a brief introduction on the five Best Weed Eaters  for your reference.

This is a very good edger/trimmer and a good bargain to boot also the auto line-feed works OK each time the trimmer is started up from a complete stop.

The inventor of the first portable electric drill with pistol grip and trigger switch, Black & Decker has evolved from a small machine shop in Baltimore, Maryland to a global manufacturing and marketing powerhouse with a broad line of quality products used in and around the home and for commercial applications.

I am surprisingly pleased by this weed whacker/trimmer! Despite all the positive reviews, I just couldn’t shake the notion that a battery-powered tool like this would be underpowered, or run out of batteries quickly. . I was also impressed by the edging — it went very quickly!

We already own a gas-powered trimmer, but it took all my arm strength to just hold the thing… I had no muscles left to aim it! This is so lightweight and relatively quiet. I’m thrilled that now I can trim around the garden and walkways when I need to, instead of nagging my husband.

I purchased the set with 2 batteries which I definitely recommend. They last a very decent amount of time (about 15-20 mins for me before it starts slowing down) so having 2 saves it from being a frustrating experience. I also like that the manual specifically and explicitly states that you can leave the battery on the charger with no ill effects, and encourages you to charge it frequently rather than letting it drain down. It’s much more convenient.

In summary

  • two thumbs up
  • VERY powerful and was able to handle very thick weeds tall overgrown grass, and also delicate grass

I needed to clear a large area around a building for file prevention. I had a gas trimmer in the past, but I don’t use it frequently and the maintenance is a pain. I only need it a few times a year, so a battery unit is a bit of a waste as even sitting on the charger, batteries have a limited life span.
A plug in trimmer seems to be the best option. This Toro 51480 is priced low and I was not expecting much, but the build quality is very good. The motor is very powerful. It has no problem beating even heavy grass and plants. Not quite on par with a full size gas unit, but very close. And I don’t have to wear ear protection. The auto feed is a bit of a problem. On other trimmers, you smack it on the ground to let out extra string. This Toro, it lets out string every time you start it from full stop. The string that comes with it is very poor and wears out quickly. If you hit a rock, the string is almost gone before you let off the trigger. To spool out about 2 inches of string, you have to stop and start it about 5 times. It’s really annoying and it gets worse in heavy brush.I also picked up “Cyclone .065-Inch-by-300-Foot Spool Commercial Grade 6-Blade 1/2-Pound Grass Trimmer Line, Blue CY065D1/2-12” on Amazon.
This string is wonderful. It cuts better, and last far longer. I am no longer stopping and starting the Toro every 5 seconds to advance the string in heavy brush. Toss the string the Toro comes with in the trash and use this.

Toro’s new string trimmers are powerful, durable, and packed with high-performing features that make yard care seem effortless.

Black & Decker ST7700 4.4-amp  Feed String Trimmer/Edger

This is by far the best trimmer I’ve owned in a long time. I’ve used it 5 times now to trim and edge my yard, and I haven’t had a broken line yet, and it feed remarkably well. I am still using the line that was supplied on the spool, and that might be the reason it has performed so well. When it comes time to replenish the line to the spool, I’m going to try ensure that it is wrapped neatly. I think the real test will be on the replenished spool. So the jury is still out on that. But so far it has earned it’s 5 star rating. Well done Black and Decker. And no……. I’m not one of those paid reviewers.
